Overview

A new home for Walk The Plank, to enable a dedicated creative learning and making hub for outdoor arts in the UK. The project merged two existing WTP premises onto a single refurbished site that will reunite the WTP delivery team, makers and management team.

The building’s main spaces incorporate 3 bays of refurbished warehouse for workshop and training uses, a new build extension to the North of the site which house a creative hub of office facilities and a courtyard in between providing natural light and natural ventilation throughout. The hub is an industrial but contemporary design and the remarkable roof massing of the design ensures the building is subtly extraordinary within the context.

This successful project was completed within a modest budget and the constraints of an existing site. Through & Around supported delivery from client brief to final handover, overseeing and running procurement of design and construction team, a successful Arts Council England small scale capital application and ensuring all funder requirements were fully. The project went on to win RIBA North West Award, Client of the Year award and North West Emerging Practice of the Year Award in 2018.

In 2019 the building was subject to fire damage and Through & Around were re-employed to manage the insurance claim process and partial reconstruction of the 2017 project.
