Bluecoat, Liverpool’s centre for the contemporary arts, secured capital funding to develop the ground floor public areas of the building (known as the Hub) in 2018. The project has transformed the public areas, enabling Bluecoat to better reflect their vision, mission and values. Through the capital works, Bluecoat have created a vibrant and welcoming ground floor public area, with high quality and sustainable facilities.
The building has been developed to be an intuitive building with a coherent message and brand which has improved how the public approach, interact with and understand Bluecoat as an organisation and site, and which actively contributes to the commercial revenue growth of the organisation.
In the Hub, Bluecoat have struck a balance between highlighting the building’s heritage as the city centre’s oldest Grade I listed building and clearly reflecting the organisation’s artistic roots, current creative purpose and significant social value. The design embraces the multi-faceted offer at Bluecoat, creating a warmer welcome and more secure sense of place for visitors.
Through & Around were appointed in 2018 to manage the project (including the relocation of the café) through from concept to delivery including Client brief development and design and construction team procurement and management.
